    Plant Day

At Little Feet Nursery, Al khan we recently held Plant Day as an opportunity for our young ones to interact directly with the natural world and bond through hands-on exploration of Plant Day celebration. There’s something truly captivating about watching children interact with nature for the first time. Their expression of awe as they touch a rough piece of bark or feel tickly grass, or experience intense concentration as they plant a tiny seed into soil are unforgettable moments of discovery.
It was designed as an immersive learning experience designed to cultivate environmental consciousness, sensory development and an appreciation of nature. Our aim was to demonstrate to students that nature wasn’t simply something else: It can serve as playground, teacher and friend.

Importance of Nature Education in Early Childhood Education

Connecting children to nature is integral to early childhood development. When they spend time outside playing or exploring nature, they not only develop critical life skills such as physical activity or cognitive growth but also foster emotional wellbeing and patience by waiting for seeds to sprout or caring for living things; furthermore it teaches responsibility in caring for living things while noting seasonal shifts as part of nature play.
At Al Khan Gardens Nursery School we believe the environment serves as our third teacher; by taking advantage of outdoor spaces we create an ideal atmosphere for growth; be it digging in the dirt or discovering insects these interactions form the basis for lifelong appreciation of nature and all it offers us.

Hands-On Activities: Let’s Get Our Hands Dirty

Plant Day at our school was filled with excitement, We set up multiple stations where children could explore all aspects of plant life. Parents searching for Nursery Schools Sharjah have many choices available to them, with nature-integrated programs providing optimal learning environments for young ones

    Seed Planting Station

A highlight was the Seed Planting Station. Equipped with small pots, soil, and packets of seeds, children learned the fundamentals of planting. Scooping up dirt using their hands before carefully placing seeds into their dirt patches before watering gently with their bottles was a memorable lesson in plant biology and life cycles; also learning basic needs for living things such as sun light soil water balance etc. The pride on their faces as they labeled their pots was heartening.

    Sensory Nature Walk

In our outdoor area, we held a sensory nature walk. Children were encouraged to engage all five senses as we asked questions such as, “What does this leaf feel like?” and “Can you smell the flowers?”. This activity helped develop their descriptive language skills as well as increase sensory awareness. They collected leaves, twigs and pebbles which we then utilized as craft materials later.

    Leaf Rubbing Art

Back in our classroom, we used some of the items collected during our walk to engage children in creative art making using crayons and paper to create leaf rubbings an artform which reveals intricate veins and textures of leaves through drawing techniques combining art with science using crayons for leaf rubbing art was an engaging way for them to observe nature’s wide array of shapes and patterns.

    Why Hands-On Learning Matters

Plant Day helps close this gap by connecting abstract concepts with real world experiences.
Physically planting seeds helps children grasp the Concept Of Growth much better than from viewing pictures in books, while touching living creatures such as worms or ladybugs helps build respect and confidence within children traits which will serve them throughout their educational careers.

    Fostering a Green Mindset

Plant Day was about more than education we wanted to instilling values by teaching children early that plants play an essential part of air, food, and ecosystem management; thus creating future protectors of the environment.

    Building Community Through Nature

Events such as Plant Day are instrumental to strengthening our community. Watching children collaborate to water the garden together or share tools teaches teamwork and socialization skills; children also develop communication, negotiation and sharing techniques allowing them to enjoy shared discoveries among peers.
Parents were involved by giving potted plants home. This extended learning beyond classroom walls, giving families an opportunity to watch these little green giants grow together as daily reminders of all of the hard work their child had put forth and lessons learnt at school.
